Service delivery becomes a major priority for science council

The main challenge now facing the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is to have a more immediately visible impact on South African society and the economy. “People [in government] no longer say – who are you? Now they say – can you help us? There is a greater concern for service delivery,” explains CSIR CEO Dr Sibusiso Sibisi. This applies especially in the areas of health service provision, infrastructure and water reticulation, among other areas. “These are the challenges people are asking us about.”
